花き試験所設立
来年4月に農林水産省花き研究所が設立される予定である。今までは、スプレー菊や沖縄の小菊などは、普及および品種改良など、三重県津市にある国の野菜、茶業試験場の花き部育種研究室によるところが多かった。しかし、今後総合的な花のR&D部門が開設され、花き生産や花持ち等の幾多の悩みを解決してくれる体制が整いつつあることは大変喜ばしい。実際のマーケティング活動は商売をしている我々花き業界で行なわれているが、その基礎は花き研究所で作られるものと期待したい。
日本の消費者にとって、現在の最大の関心事は花持ちについてである。流通サイドから家庭で5日間持つ花、1週間持つ花の実現をしたいと日本中の各所で試行錯誤を繰り返しながら、気運が盛り上がってきている。1週間家庭で持つ為には、切り花後2週間日持ちする必要がある。金曜日に切った花は、月曜日に取り引きされる可能性が高い。更に、花は買われていくのを3日間店頭で待つことになる。ギフトなどは、宅配されたりすることも多いであろうから、プラス1日、或いは仲卸の転送も含めて1日余分にかかる。これで計7日間、更に家庭で7日間とすれば、常識的に考えて、切り花後2週間持つ花を栽培していくことが必要になる。どこまでが1週間持つ花なのか、その基準を厳密に判断することは難しい。咲いている花が終わってつぼみが咲けばいいのか、その花が1週間咲きつづける必要があるのか、消費者によって1週間の賞味期限の意味をどう捉えるかはまちまちである。
昨年の4月から東北第一花きの生産者の皆さんが、自分達のバラはベントネックにならず咲ききると保証した。クレームは殆どなく、あっても特定の買参人からであった。性善説でみるか、性悪説でみるかによって異なるが、基本的に基準を設けずとも「5日間持つ花、1週間持つ花」と鑑賞保証して小売り店が売ることは業界にとってマイナスにはならないと思われる。小売り店は鮮度を重視した販売をしなければならない。一方、仲卸・卸売会社、輸送会社は鮮度保持を心掛けた物流をしなければならない。農協の集出荷所は、場合によっては空調も必要だろう。生産者は切り花の前処理や花持ちを中心とした栽培を重視しなければならない。このように考えてくると、業界最前線で、小売り店が自分のリスクで花持ちを保証する為には、業界のそれぞれの人達が自分の役割を鮮度保持の観点から見直し、仕事を再構築することが重要になってくる。
以上切り花について述べてきたが、ハチモノを48時間暗室に入れ、その後花持ち試験をするなど、鉢花の対策にも取り掛かる時期に来ている。「あのお花屋さんの花は持つ」、またお花屋さんは「あの産地のお花はいい」というように、花持ち保証から銘柄が確立する可能性はきわめて高い。今までは、品質といえば外観に関することが殆どであったが、これからは中身の品質が重視され銘柄が確立されていくことになる。国の研究所設立は、日本花き業界の21世紀へ向けてのシンボルである。
The Symbol of Flower ServiceThe National Research Institute of Floriculture of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries is to be completed next April. Spread and improvement of breeding spray chrysanthemums and small mums in Okinawa prefecture have much relied on the Laboratory of Breeding Technology, Department of Floriculture, National Research Institute of Vegetables, Ornamental Plants & Tea in Tsu city, Mie prefecture. It is great pleasure that a floriculture department for Research & Development is to be set up and the system which can solve many problems about flowers is goingto be improved from later on. It will hopefully be expected to make a basis of marketing activities in such laboratories like this.
The greatest interest for the Japanese is the long life of flowers these days. This activities to grow longer life flowers is getting popular aiming at 5 day-life-flowers and 1 week-life-flowers after picking up all over the growing areas in Japan. It is necessary to keep cut flowers fresh for a week at home. If you cut flowers on Friday, it is high possibility for those flowers to be dealt with in market on Monday. And then, they have to wait to be bought for 3 days in a flower shops. If you use cut flowers as a present, for example, it will take one day at least to get home and another day will be taken because they will go through wholesale dealers. As you can see, it takes 7days to get home and another 7days are needed for consumers to enjoy them. Thus, we need to grow 2 week-life- flowers after cutting . However, the problem is that the meaning of 1 week-life-flowers totally depends on individual. Someone may say 1 week-life means 1 week after coming out. Another may regard 1-week-life since in bud.
The growers of Touhoku-Daiichi Floriculture has guaranteed that their roses will not bend the necks before coming out since last April. They have hardly had complaints about it except for particular customers. It will supposedly work in a positive way if you guarantee the long life of cut flowers such as "5 days" or "1 week" to sell them in flower shops. In this view, shopkeepers and retailers need to think much of the flowers being fresh. On the other hand, wholesale dealers and people relating to transportation are highly expected to pay much attention to keep flowers fresh when carrying them. An air conditioner, for example, may be needed in some cases. Growers have to think most of the long life of cut flowers. That is to say, it is necessary for all people engaged in floriculture service to reflect what role you have and what you can do for cut flowers to keep them for a longer time.
The experiment of pot plants has already been started for their long life by keepingpots in the dark for 48 hours. Those guarantees of long life will possibly lead the growers, dealers and retailers to a good brand. As is often the case in the past, high quality indicated the good looks such as shape or colour, however, this idea is going to be changed from now on. The constitution of the national laboratory will help the progress of study for the long life of flowers and is also a symbol of floriculture service towards the 21st century.
